Rose Bowl History
The Rose Bowl 2018 will be the 104th game in the history of the historic bowl. The bowl game was first played in 1902, making it the oldest bowl game in the country. That distinction gave him the name of "The grandfather of all." The Rose Bowl game was also played every year since 1916.
For much of its history, the Rose Bowl Game has been known to coincide with the conference champions Big Ten and Pac-12. But with the university football tiebreaker format, the Rose Bowl will serve as the venue for a semifinal every three years. In 2015, No. 3 Oregon beat No. 2 Florida State, 59-20, in a semi-final. The 2018 Rose Bowl Game will also be a national semifinal.
It is not known if the game 2018 Rose Bowl will feature the No. 1 vs. No. 4 or teams No. 2 vs. No. 3. Bowl announcements will be made on Sunday, December 3.
In the game of 2017, USC beat Penn State, 52-49, in a thriller. USC recovered from a 49-35 deficit to win when Matt Boermeester kicked a 46-yard field goal on the final play of the game. QB Sam Darnold passed for 453 yards and 5 touchdowns in the victory. RB Saquon Barkley had a great game with 194 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, 55 receiving yards and a touchdown and 57 yards of return kick.
"Obviously, a lot of excitement in the locker room right now," Penn State coach James Franklin said after the game. "That's natural, players should have their chin up because of what they achieved throughout the season, that's the story of this team, this game does not define them."
Any loss hurts, either in week 1 or in week 17, "said Sartre Barkley, RB of Nittany Lions." Why it hurts more is for the elderly. "Coach Franklin and the seniors have done a great job We wanted to send the elderly with a victory. "
USC has the most appearances in the history of the Rose Bowl Game, playing 34 times (25 wins, 9 losses). Michigan is number 2 with 20 appearances and a record of 8-12.
